The Art of Conserving Energy

Nov 21, 2023

With the end of 2023 almost upon us, we might be left wondering where the time has gone?

We may start to put off the things we have been wanting to do all year long (cos we also didn’t have the time back then right?) in the hopes that we can relax, and reset come the new year.

We will get to it in the new year.

Now is not the time to slow down and rest.

I decided to flip this around this month with my students and have an entire month of learning the art of slowing down and conserving energy.

What if we did focus on some self-care practices that helps to increase our energy levels and balance our heightened emotions?

Would it then be possible to get to the end of the year joyfully with plenty of energy left to enjoy it all?

I was reminded by something my grandfather told me years ago when I was a little girl:

He was drawing the distinction between Yoga and other forms of exercises (technically Yoga is more than an exercise but that’s a discussion for another time) and he told me that the purpose of Yoga is to conserve our energy (life force or Prana) so we can enjoy good health and vitality whereas most other form of exercises, depletes our vital life energy.

As a young kid full of energy, I never understood what he meant by this until I was a lot older.

Think of prana or energy as the invisible force that sustains you. It’s what gives you energy, vitality and the ability to function in daily life.

The Yogis had a great understanding of this and knew the importance of cultivating and preserving a person’s life force.

I know personally when I practice Yoga in a way that is not depleting (yes, you can overdo it in Yoga too) I feel the benefits of vibrant energy.

Your Yoga practice should ultimately make you feel energised, balanced, and happy after.

If you are not feeling these benefits, it’s time to question your practice.

So we embarked on an entire month of practices that focused on conserving our vital life force.

Practices that stops us feeling depleted and exhausted all the time.

We slowed down while the rest of the world was busy.

We breathed life back into our tired bodies and weary minds.

We stretched and moved our bodies in a nourishing way.

Most importantly, we took the time to rest and restore vitality into our being.

This video is a short snippet of our practice this month but is the most important of all. It’s a 10-minute practice along routine to guide you through the fundamentals of proper breathing.

Discover how to increase your energy levels and cultivate a sense of calm and focus.

Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, this practice is designed to leave you feeling revitalized and connected to your breath.

I hope you discover the joys of increased energy through breathing well ❤
